About Bariatric Medicine

"Bariatric Medicine" is the area of medicine dealing with the weight loss. As defined by the American Medical Association, it is "the medical specialty concentrating on the treatment of Obesity and Weight related disease" with treatments recognized and covered by most health insurance plans. Bariatric physicians are Medical Doctors certified by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine (ABBM).

Unfortunately, bariatric medicine is most often associated with the specific procedures known as bariatric surgery such as putting a band around your stomach to control your food intake or surgery to bypass your stomach. If you are researching, or even thinking about this weight loss option then please, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to read up on the risks, deaths and long term harm caused by this type of surgery. Don't do it to yourself!

More importantly, you need to research the effectiveness of quality non-surgical bariatric medical treatment. Our Medical Director, Dr. Lonny Horowitz, has had years of past surgical experience, yet he wouldn't do these procedures due to the potential damage to the health of our patients.
