Lonny E. Horowitz, M.D.
Born and raised in New York, Dr. Horowitz completed a Rotating Sub-Internship at The Peninsula General Hospital Center Affiliated with The State University of New York at Stony Brook Medical School. Dr. Horowitz continued his post-graduate training in General and Trauma Surgery at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Rutgers Medical School at Camden and New York University Medical Center / Booth Memorial Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Horowitz started his Non-Surgical Medical Bariatric practice in 1984.
Dr. Horowitz is one of approximately 500 board certified Bariatricians in the United States. Bariatric Medicine is the medical specialty which treats Obesity and eating disorders. To become board certified and maintain his board certification Dr. Horowitz completed two years of clinical practice in Bariatric Medicine, passed comprehensive written and oral examinations, underwent a detailed office inspection, as well as formal peer review.
Dr. Horowitz participates in annual continuing medical education courses (CME) for which he receives credits recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, as well as, the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. Dr. Horowitz is a past recipient of the Physicians Recognition Award of the American Medical Association. He is a Fellow of the Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as the American College of International Physicians. He is a member of the American College of Preventive Medicine as well as a founding member the North American Society for the Study of Obesity (NASSO).
Dr. Horowitz has served actively in the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG), and the Medical Association of Atlanta (MAA). He has been a member of the American Medical Association since 1980. Dr. Horowitz has participated on numerous medical association committees which included his chairmanship of both the MAG Committee on Prison Health Care, and the MAA Patient Relations/Grievance committee. Dr. Horowitz serves as a peer reviewer for the Georgia Composite State Board of Medical Examiners and has received Three Citations from the Georgia Legislature. He has been honored as "Doctor of the Day" on four separate occasions by past Georgia Governors (now US Senator) Zell Miller and Roy Barnes. Dr. Horowitz has received the Presidents Award for Outstanding Service from the Medical Association of Atlanta. Dr. Horowitz regularly testifies against questionable diet doctors and programs and has worked as an expert for the Federal Trade Commission regarding diet products and claims. He currently is a consultant to the DEA and US Dept. of Justice on diet drugs and illegal internet prescribing.
For more than two years Dr. Horowitz was the "Ask the Doctor" medical expert for Atlanta's WXIA TV 11 Alive. He still acts as the stations diet and obesity consultant. He regularly appeared on the Atlanta CBS affiliate WGCL noon news on a broad spectrum of medical topics and has appeared on all of the major Atlanta TV stations as well as national television as an expert in Obesity treatment.
Cathy Landers, CMA
Cathy C. Landers, Office Manager, and Administrator, is our chief cook and bottle washer, as well as Dr. Horowitz's keeper, who has been doing so for over 20 years. Cathy handles all of our patient's financial and insurance problems and helps coordinate all office administrative procedures. She also oversees Dr. Horowitz's busy lecture schedule, speaking engagements, as well as television and radio appearances.
